CHP Shootout

I've always wanted an event for Chevy High Performance.

I've always wanted an event for Chevy High Performance. Matter of fact, several of our sister publications have successfully created viable events, which have churned out incredible street machines that we may have never seen or heard of otherwise.

I should note that I've gone into details in our upcoming June '08 editorial, so I'll just pose this question for all of you. What kind of CHP event would you participate in? Would you prefer open-tracking or would it be an all out drag race? Maybe a combination of the two? That said, what about location?

Any thoughts? I'm definitely listening!

All I have to say is... "It's about time!" lol I prefer drag racing over anything else. I'm willing to attend the event within 200 miles where I live (Texas). I like to see only street cars with full interior and tags. The rules can be open for any size tire and such, to have the car count up for the first year or so. Perhaps have a class for SBC and BBC just to keep it an equal playing field. Chevy motors and Chevy bodies only is a must! Keep the rules simple and you should get a good respond. You can even have an index class to keep everyone happy and have a separate class for the heads-up guys.

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) would be a great location. Drag racing on "The Strip", maybe some fast laps around the speedway, a meet & greet, and the "Big Party" all sound like great ideas. I would like to see some real street machines and not some all-out race cars that someone just stuck a license plate on. I also would like to see a class of racing where only pump gas is allowed. We have Rebel gas stations here with 100 octane fuel. I drive a red 1976 Chevy Monza with a supercharged SBC that's registered and driven on the streets of Las Vegas. I'm active duty military and just got here in October 2007 and so farthe locals really like the car. It's not your typical V8 with a blower bolted on, it's a serious street machine that I'm trying to turn into a Pro-Street car. It even has a 400HP NOS system on board.

mostly.crue, i think thats a great idea. all the project cars, and a meet and greet with the staff. i am certainly up for that. especially if we have a track event with a road course and some drag racing as well.i am sure there will be a lot of people who would like to see this kind of event...even invite some MFG's maybe?

I think a combination of the two would be really cool. I know California speedway is a great location.

Cool Henry, Get the ball rolling! I would love to see drag racing, auto cross and maybe some drifting(not pros just readers in thier own rides). How about a meet and greet with all the CHP guys with hands on tech. Bring all the project cars for everyone to see up close.I would definitely come to see that!Jeff.P.S. no car show. Just make it one Big party. Kinda like tailgating for Hot Rodders.
