The law-makers are at it again and it's going to cost me money...
This whole “hands-free” law that has just passed here in Los Angeles has got me a little fired up but motivated at the same time. If you aren’t aware, by the first of July, it will be illegal to use your cell phone while driving in your vehicle unless it’s hands-free. Yes, it’s a good thing to keep your eyes on the road. Way too many people are roaming our city streets with their phones glued to the ear. Someone driving too slowly in front of you? Well, no wonder…they are on the phone. I guess, maybe, I myself am guilty of these same actions and actually slow down in traffic while on the phone. Sorry.
Like I said, the law is meant to benefit all and keeps us safer. But, it doesn’t keep money in my account. By the first of next month, ill be shelling out $80-100 of my own money in order to stay out of a ticket. I think it’s the first law I have encountered where I’m actually spending money up front to stay out of paying for a ticket in the future. I don’t know, it just seems a little strange to me.
Moreover though, it does lead me to another thought. How about an install story on a hands-free device in one of our project vehicles? All newer phones now come with the Blu-Tooth option, so why not? I’d love to have one in the El Camino project—not that I’ll be able to hear anyone with the big-block thumping along. The coolness-gadget factor alone has got me motivated enough to get one though.
