Truth be told, we’re very fortunate to be able to work with high caliber dyno facilities… While being stuck on our heavily congested SoCal freeway the other day, I had a great chance to catch up with our buddies over at our sister publication GM High Tech Performance, namely editor Rick Jensen. We were discussing a new dyno facility that I had just checked out and it was then I first learned that they really have limited access to dynos. Unfortunately, there just aren’t many places to work with in their area.
Albeit, I’m still jealous of the fact that he has incredible dragstrips for real world performance evaluations. If you read the LACR blog below, that was our main stomping grounds for years and ever since it shut down – its been hard to recover from. Sure, we get the occasional 1/8 mile hit at Irwindale Speedway; however that place is so packed, we’re lucky to get two runs. And if the car is especially loud, forget it. With their noise regulations, you’ll be lucky to get one pass. We do have Fontana, but even that’s getting harder to get access too. It is what it is and for now, I’m just grateful that we even have tracks available in our area.
Alright, obviously we don’t have the tracks, but what we do have are killer dyno facilities. Case in point, I made the time to check out Vaca Performance & Dyno in Downey, CA, and it was rather impressive. It’s a new operation that I learned about through a fellow racer we compete with (Thanks Levi!) and it’s first rate.
 Want to put your car on rollers then they have a DTS chassis dyno that’s good up to 2,400 horsepower. If it’s the engine dyno you want to get on, their DTS equipment is good for 3,000 horsepower, 15,000 rpm, 2,000 lb-ft and they can monitor every engine parameter you can think of.
