Young minds are impressionable and here's one short story of how it happened at the U.S. Nationals.
One of the nice things about working where we do is that we have our own personal suites at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it this year, but I did hear a great story from a colleague of mine about our friends at Air Ride Technologies.
Bret Voelkel, President of Air Ride Technologies, along with his better half Sharon and their two little ones Andy (9) and Sara (6) had the opportunity to spend some time with our group at the prestigious event. Turns out these two had a blast, absorbing the entire scenery and even taking those memories back home with them.
No, I'm not a father by any means and I still have a ways to go before I ever consider going that route (I am a godfather, though!), but what I particularly enjoyed hearing about was their enthusiasm. It wasn't that long ago when I was told that it would be our responsibility to do our part for our hobby and sport. If nothing else, I guess it's time for me to pass on that verbiage.
If you have any influence on the fresh minds; take them to a car show, let them hand over a wrench while you're working on your projects, and more importantly share some of your experiences with them. Granted, some won't take to it and may prefer to play with a pile of mud, but for those that are digging it - it'll open doors they may never have dreamed of and who knows, you may end up with a new crewmember.
Going back to Andy and Sarah, how much fun did they have? Lets just say they had enough fun to send in these drawings. I hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
