It's nothing to hide, I enjoy tapping the keyboard when it comes to tuning.

GM LS2/7 Ignition Control for '06-On 58-Tooth Cranks.

Do I have a preference between carbureted or fuel-injected applications? Nope, I enjoy them both. But, I will admit that there's something about playing with timing inside the car with a lap top.

Our most recent carbureted LS2 test allowed me to play with MSD's LS2/LS7 Ignition Controller. Inside the 402ci stroker, we had a LS1 crankshaft with the 24-tooth reluctor wheel that we had to swap out for the later model 58-tooth piece. Once we figured that out, setting the timing on this baby was nothing less than childs play.

What's neat about this deal is the minimal wiring involved and if you have little experience with setting a complete timing curve; never fear because you also have the option to plug in a variety of chips that are preprogrammed for you. In our case, we dialed it in and had at it.

I should mention that its been awhile since I punched in a curve for a nitrous application, but truth be told, it was cake. For the 150 shot, it was only a matter of dropping the total timing by 6 degrees from 3,800 rpms on (we hit the button at 4,000 rpm.) When we stepped up to the 200 shot, we dropped the timing an additional 4 degrees, leaving the total timing at 30 degrees. The best part - we didn't have to lift a timing light, wrench, and it was all done by wire.

If you want to check out the software for yourself, just log onto MSD's site at www.msdignition.com and click the link for their software section. It won't take up much space on your computer and you'll find that this new fangled technology is pretty fun to play with.
