If you lose, you get up and try again for the win…

Our days at the dyno can sometimes take the life from you. If you have had any experience when at the dyno with your engine, or maybe a customer’s engine, than you know what I am referring too. Hours and even days, can leave you building—not only are you building the motor, but you are essentially building up anticipation in yourself for the mill to produce the power you are expecting.

Finally, by the time the engine gets to the dyno, you strap the thing down and you work out all the mess of getting the thing fired up. By that time, you are already beat. However, you strive forward and are motivated by the numbers. You can’t wait for the operator to lay the thing down and make a “full-pull”.

On one hand, the thing could make out of this world numbers and smiles will be easy to come by; all the hard work was worth the effort and sweat. Sometimes however, the numbers don’t meet your expectations and that can leave you searching desperately. You begin to second-guess yourself and you go over the build in your head. You question, “What did I forget?”, and “Did I measure everything properly?” These questions can tear you up inside. You grab a seat on the nearest floor. You sit and ponder all the “what-if’s”. Luckily though, an engine is not a person. They can't think back at you and any problem can be solved, even if that means tearing the whole thing down and starting over.
