To Cowl Or Not To Cowl

Cowl Hoods

Our '73 Camaro is on the verge of getting its first weekend makeover.

Assuming all goes well, with the help of our friends at Lou's Performance in Sun Valley, CA, we're going to transform our second-gen with a complete split-bumper conversion. The real question is, what are your thoughts on cowl hoods?


I was originally trying to shy away from cowl hools and wanted to stick with a flat one, however we'll need the added room for the powerplant we're looking to drop in. The current hood is a factory item and has an aftermarket cowl grafted onto it; while it looks great from ten feet, it has to go.

What are your thoughts - should we opt for a steel cowl hood or look into the smallest 'glass hood available?

1. Personally, I love the cowl hoods, but then, I'll always be stuck in the 60's and 70's. If your going all out drag, then I'd go glass. But if your going street, I'd go for the stability and fit of steel.

2. Hey Mark, I agree I like cowl hoods in general and nearly every car I've owned ended up having one. Looks like this one won't be any different as I opted for the smallest one from from Harwood. :)

3. I like the cowl hood,but the L-88 style hood adds a differant style to the 70-73 camaro. besides everyone is putting the cowl hood on their camaro is'nt this car to be a little differant ?
