He boldly went where no man should go...ever!

Ok, time to fess up. I'm a dyed in the wool sci-fi geek. It started early, when my father would let me stay up and watch Godzilla movies with him until the wee hours of the night. Watching reruns of the original Star Trek was a natural progression--and when it comes to action hero bravado, who can match up to vintage Captain Kirk? The guy kicked Klingon ass, romanced voluptuous green women, defeated a giant humanoid lizard in hand-to-hand combat, and fired his phaser first and asked questions later. And if some galaxy threatening object needed to be obliterated, he sent photon torpedos flying and sorted out the pieces afterward. I still dig it. And now we've got a new Star Trek flick on the way, a "reimagination" of the original is what I think they call it. So far, the publicity stills I've seen look pretty cool, but the new trailer I just found is stocked with the most heinous piece of sci fi violence I can image: a young James T. Kirk is running from a robot police officer in a mid-year Corvette. Yes, a mid-year Corvette--I'm guessing its a '65 or '66--which would make the thing at least a couple hundred years old in the Star Trek universe. Which is exceptionally cool--right up until the point when Kirk jumps out of the Vette just before it plummets over a cliff to it's automotive oblivion. All I can say is, Most illogical, Captain. Wanna see it? Check out the trailer at http://www.startrekmovie.com/.
