The American Gas Guzzler Myth, by Tom Appel

In his post on the Consumer Auto Guide website (Click Here), Appel takes on the commonly held belief that American cars are all gas hogs. Not only is this not true, as Appel demonstrates, but the mpg leader in 5 of the 8 vehicle classes he looks at are Chevrolets: the Cobalt XFE (above),

Chevrolet Malibu LTZ

the Malibu LTZ

Chevrolet Traverse

the Traverse

Chevrolet Tahoe

the Tahoe

Chevy Silverado

and the Silverado.

Ford and Dodge lead two of the other classes. The interesting point Appel makes is that import makers sell big trucks and SUVs, just like the domestics, only the imports get worse milage. Could there actually be some truth in Chevrolet commercials when it comes to mpg? I was certainly surprised at this info--please check it out for yourself. It's certainly something to think about, especially with all that's going on in the domestic automotive industry at this point.
