Just a quick update on our 598 powered ’71 Nova.
Last weekend at the PSCA Fontana event, we ran into a few issues, qualifying dead last with a 8.70 at just 166 mph. Fun, right???
First round we had number 1 qualifier Armen Maghdessian (owner of a beautiful nitrous huffing ’57) who ran 7.98 at 177.995 – we got him with a 8.095 at 178.99 to his 8.080 at 176.26. Not bad for a leaf-spring car on little radials.
From there we had a bye run into the finals against number 4 qualifier Dave Schwarz (turbo Fox-body Mustang). Man, the Nova was on a run, but the hood scoop popped off and just killed the tune, giving Dave the win with a 8.025 at 179.21 over our 8.222 at 172.89.
This coming weekend, we’ll be at Bakersfield for the WCHRA finals and we're looking to see if we can't go a little quicker. Looking at the RacePak data, things look promising. This new combination has taken some time to sort out, but we haven’t even scratched the surface of what it’s fully capable of.
